WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ENCHANTED STORMBREAKER?

Marvel fans are getting antsy, waiting for their favorite superheroes to return to movie theatres as soon as possible. We are missing the Avengers adventures. It has been too long since we witnessed the Avengers defeat any supervillains. We miss Captain America running in to rescue innocent civilians, Black Widow unleashing her otherworldly martial arts and espionage skills, and Thor, son of Odin, wielding his hammer, Mjölnir, to save the universe. The long gap between new releases is even making us miss the atrocities of the Mad Titan Thanos as he snapped his fingers, killing half the inhabitants of planet Earth.

We fill the void with the latest Ant-Man, Spider-Man animation, Guardians of the Galaxy, and even The Marvel, featuring Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel, but they did not quite hit the mark. So we once again talk about the OG Marvel Avengers. Truthfully, they are the superheroes that really tick all the right boxes.

The Thor franchise is especially loved by all Marvel fans. Thor, the God of Thunder, son of the Great God of War and Wisdom, Odin, and the King of Asgard, is a major part of the Avengers universe. The Asgardian Thor weapons, the hammer Mjölnir and the Stormbreaker are just as powerful as their owner. These powerful weapons have played a vital role in his many adventures through the many realms of the multiverse. Thor waving his battle hammer has helped create exciting cinematic moments that have enthralled fans.

The Fall of Mighty Thor Hammer, Mjölnir

The literal obliteration of Thor's original Mjolnir is as epic as any classic Greek tragedy. Hela, the Goddess of Death, Thor's evil sister, destroys Mjölnir quite stylishly! Imprisoned by Odin as a punishment, and she was released as soon as he died.

Immediately after her resurrection, Thor attacked Hela using his Hammer. She grabbed the hammer with just one hand and crushed it effortlessly. This asserted her dominion over Thor and Loki but also sent Thor running, looking for another worthy weapon to replace his mighty hammer.

The Rise of Stormbreaker in the Marvel Universe

The Journey to the Dying Star

The forging of Stormbreaker took place at Nidavellir, a dying star. Thor, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot traveled to Nidavellir to seek the help of the weapon-forging dwarf Eitri.

The Dwarf King of Nidavellir

Eitri, the dwarf king of Nidavellir, was the last survivor of the dwarven realm and played a key role in the creation of Stormbreaker, which became a significant weapon in the battle against Thanos in the Infinity War. Eitri was convinced of Thor's ability to create a weapon powerful enough to kill Thanos, he guided him to the mold for Stormbreaker that was already present in the heart of the dying star, ready to use.

Groot's Sacrifice

Groot sacrificed his own arm to provide the handle for Stormbreaker. He used his body as a substitute for the wooden handle, creating a unique and powerful bond between Groot and the newly forged battle hammer.

The Test of Thor's Worthiness

Eitri explained to Thor that the weapon's enchantment required the focus of a star's worth of energy and that only someone worthy of wielding it could harness its full power. Thor proved his worthiness, and the enchanted mold completed the forging process.

The Birth of Stormbreaker

As energy from the star was channeled into the mold, the axe took shape, and Stormbreaker was forged. It was a formidable weapon that had the ability to summon the Bifrost, the rainbow bridge used for fast travel between realms.

Ambush on Thanos

Thor wields Stormbreaker for the first time in Avengers: Infinity War. He used it to great effect in the battle against Thanos and his forces. In fact, Thor's Stormbreaker has been responsible for the demise of several notable villains in the Marvel Universe. But most notably, Thor used his powerful Stormbreaker to fatally wound Thanos during the climactic battle in Wakanda in the Infinity War. However, this did not prevent Thanos from ultimately achieving his goal of wiping out half of all life in the universe using the Infinity Stones.

The Fall of the Mad Titan

Thankfully, in Avengers: Endgame, after the Avengers retrieved all the Infinity Stones from the past, Iron Man used them to snap away Thanos and his army while undoing his mass human wiping. However, the power of using the stones proved to be fatal for him. As Thanos watched the undoing of his master plan, Thor, wielding Mjolnir and Stormbreaker side by side, approached him, finally delivering a powerful and decisive blow by cutting off Thanos' head with Stormbreaker.
