What We Can Expect to See from Call of The Night Season 2

Fans of Call of the Night, the wait is finally over! Call of the Night season Two has officially been confirmed with the release of a visual teaser that sent shockwaves through the anime community. The much-anticipated teaser video was released on March 11, 2024, during Fuji TV’s Anime Lineup Press Conference, alongside a teaser visual on the Noitamina YouTube channel.

Now for those of you who are unfamiliar with this captivating show, Call of the Night is an anime series that has received critical acclaim. It is based on a Japanese manga created by Kotoyama that was published in Weekly Shonen Sunday. The popular manga series achieved worldwide recognition and continued for over five years, from 2019 to 2024. Later on, the manga was adapted into an anime series. It was one of the most-watched anime series of the summer of 2022 because of its original and compelling plot, which strayed from the cliched vampire stories. Many of the fans were drawn to the mesmerising aesthetics that expertly portrayed gothic themes and moulded them into aesthetically gorgeous imagery.

Story and Plot

The protagonist is the bored and inattentive fourteen-year-old middle school student Kou Yamori, whose life is a complete mess due to his insomnia and overall discontentment with his life. The restless Kou begins skipping school and even goes on late-night wandering sprees throughout the city because of his inability to sleep or find anything of particular interest to him. On one of his adventures, Kou encounters Nazuna Nanakusa, a mysterious and carefree girl.

According to Nazuna, those who are unhappy with life usually face sleeplessness and can never be happy till they let go of their inhibitions. She invites Kou over to her place and offers to help with his troubles; however, when he pretends to sleep, she reveals herself to be a vampire and bites him in the neck.

Despite the shocking events, Kou is unfazed by her identity and hopes to follow in her footsteps by becoming a vampire, ready to accept eternal life. To his dismay, though, he must be bitten by a vampire he truly loves to transform into a vampire. Soto accomplish this, he makes an effort to become close to Nazuna romantically in the hopes that he will eventually fall in love with her and be able to let go of his dull, mortal life and embrace immortality.

The two come to a mutual understanding whereby Nazuna will feast on his blood in return for spending time with him. However, as they spend more time together, Kou and Nazuna go on an exhilarating, roller-coaster journey during which nightlife and a dark, shadowy world Kou had never heard of or seen unfold before him. Their relationship gets stronger and more intimate with time.

What to expect?

Approximately a year and a half after the iconic first season aired, there's been an official confirmation about the second season. With the announcement of Call of the Night season 2 and the release of the teaser image and video, we can only speculate what is in store for us in the future.

Nazuna and AnkoUguisu, two of the most well-known vampires in the series, are seen in the teaser visual against a vibrant background. "The night isn't over yet" is the tagline for the visual. Even though only two of the main vampires in the show have been confirmed, we are eager to learn more about the cast in the hopes that our favourites will continue to appear in this brilliant anime series.

Though official confirmation of the series renewal has been obtained, the anticipated release date remains undisclosed and subject to conjecture. There are approximately 200 chapters in the renowned manga series Call of the Night, and up until chapter 46 of volume 5, it has been converted into an anime. Many chapters from the manga series are left behind, which might be modified for the series and added to the plot.

It is also clear that we will be captivated by Kou and Nazuna's thrilling experiences and their developing romance. One of the masterminds behind the success of Call of the Night's first season is director Tomoyuki Itamura, who is ready to captivate us with yet another exciting season of the adventures of the human and vampire duo.

Considering his earlier creations, such as Monogatari, where he succeeded Tatsuya Oishi for his directorial debut, and The Case Study of Vanitas, it will not be long till he breaks yet another record with the much-anticipated Call of the Night season 2.

We can only hope that Tomoyuki will continue to captivate us with an intriguing and well-thought-out plot in the upcoming season. He has always surprised us with twists and turns that kept us on the edge of our seats in the previous season.

Even though the two main characters' romance is still in its early stages, we anticipate delving thoroughly into their developing relationship. Fans place a high value on the twos' character development and romance; a deep dive into their pasts will enable viewers to empathise with and comprehend the fundamental qualities that define the two main characters.

Given how similar they are despite having different personalities and characteristics, it would be interesting to demonstrate how they handle disagreement. Kou finally meets the vampire who converted Nazuna is another potential plot point that might be investigated further. Whether this will benefit them both or cause their relationship to suffer, we can only hope that the next season includes this. We also expect more vampire clans to possibly enter the picture, and how they will interact with humans might be explored. Will they be at odds with Nazuna and her clan, or are there more amiable and kind vampires out there than Nazuna and her group?

Though we are fully aware that the wait for season 2 will be too long, the upcoming season will undoubtedly be fantastic based on the show's past performance. You can be sure that the wait will be worthwhile because our two favourites, Gen Sato and Sora Amamiya, will be returning to bring our favourite characters to life through their enchanted performances.
